Sarah Cushman-Johnston

Sarah is the Associate Director of Reentry at the Cornell Prison Education Program where she leads reentry efforts and provides wide-ranging support to returning CPEP students. She formerly served as Manager of Hepatitis C and Community Prevention Services at Trillium Health. In this capacity, she was responsible for developing and implementing community-based prevention programs aimed at addressing prevalent health concerns in the Rochester and Finger Lakes area. Sarah is a credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor-Trainee (CASAC-T), and a current Master’s in Public Health Candidate at the University of Rochester’s School of Medicine and Dentistry. As someone who has navigated the challenges of incarceration, Sarah has emerged with a profound resilience and a deep understanding of the transformative power of personal growth. In 2023, Sarah was awarded the New York State of Health’s Rising Star in HIV Prevention award and both the Dr. Theodore Brown Social Justice Award and Eugene H. Webb award from the University of Rochester.
